AI training for teaching staff

Your staff are already using AI. Let's make sure they use it well.

Hands-on, safeguarding-first training that shows teachers and leaders how to plan, mark, write and report in a fraction of the time. Led by a serving headteacher and co-founder.

Four ways in.

Every session is built around your own staff's real workload: your schemes of work, your report cycle, your data-protection policy. Teachers leave with prompts they will use on Monday, not a slide deck they'll forget.

Full dayWhole staff

  • Planning, resources and differentiation
  • Feedback and marking support that keeps the teacher in charge

How many free periods are hiding in your week?

Move the sliders to match a typical week. The savings use cautious, illustrative rates drawn from classroom practice. They are estimates, not promises.

Curriculum planner.

Fill in a unit and get a week-by-week skeleton plus a ready-to-use prompt that turns it into full lesson plans with Claude. This is the workflow staff build in the Departmental Deep Dives.

Model development: an assistant for every department.

A generic chatbot doesn't know your specification, your marking policy or how your department writes. A custom assistant does. Here's how we build one together.

  1. 1

    Gather the essentials

Specification, schemes of work, mark schemes, house style and example resources. Nothing containing student data.

  2. 2

    Write the instructions

A short brief that sets the assistant's role, tone, level and the formats your department uses.

  3. 3

    Test with real tasks

Staff try it on next week's lessons, and we refine it until the output needs only light editing.

  4. 4

    Hand over

The department owns it, knows how to update it, and has a one-page guide for new staff.

Example instructions

You are the planning assistant for the Economics
department. Students are 14 to 18, mostly EAL
learners in Seoul.

- Follow the attached 4EC1 specification.
- Use British spelling and command words
  (State, Explain, Analyse, Evaluate).
- Every resource includes a support and a
  stretch version.
- Use real-world examples from Korea and Asia
  where possible.
- Never invent statistics. Say when a figure
  needs checking.

The prompt clinic.

Most disappointing AI results come from one-line prompts. Pick a task to see the prompt teachers usually write, and the version they write after a session.

Do's and don'ts.

AI is brilliant at some parts of the job and the wrong tool for others. This is the line we draw in every session.

Do use AI for

  • Planning units and sequencing lessons against the specification
  • First drafts of worksheets, quizzes, starters and retrieval practice
  • Differentiating resources and simplifying texts for EAL learners
  • Report comment frameworks you then personalise
  • Drafting emails, newsletters, letters and meeting minutes
  • Rubrics, success criteria and model answers to critique
  • Ideas, analogies, real-world examples and discussion questions
  • Summarising long policies, research or exam board updates
  • Proofreading your own writing for tone and clarity

Don't use AI for

  • Anything with student names, dates of birth, medical or SEN details
  • Final grades, predicted grades or exam decisions
  • Safeguarding concerns, disclosures or child protection
  • Sending anything to students or parents without reading it first
  • HR, appraisal or disciplinary matters about staff
  • Treating AI detectors as proof of cheating
  • Replacing feedback conversations, pastoral care or parent meetings
  • Tools your school hasn't approved under GDPR or PIPA

Quick check: do or don't?

Choose an answer to see why.

Safeguarding and data protection.

The question staff ask most is "can I put this in?". The traffic-light rule gives them an answer in seconds, in line with GDPR, Korea's PIPA and your own policies.

Green · go ahead

No personal data

  • Specifications, schemes of work, published texts
  • Your own blank resources and templates
  • Anonymised work ("Student A")
Amber · check first

Could identify someone

  • Class data with names removed but small groups
  • Internal documents and meeting notes
  • Anything only on an approved school account
Red · never

Personal or sensitive

  • Names, photos, contact details, ID numbers
  • SEN, medical, family or pastoral records
  • Safeguarding concerns and disclosures

House rules.

AI in education only works if staff, parents and students can trust it. These are non-negotiable in every session.

A

The teacher stays the author

AI drafts, the professional decides. Nothing reaches a student or parent without a teacher reading it first.

B

No names in the chat

Anonymise by default. Staff learn exactly what can and cannot go into an AI tool under GDPR, Korea's PIPA and your own policy.

C

Safeguarding first

Designed by an experienced Designated Safeguarding Lead, with clear lines on student-facing use and disclosure.

D

Workload down, not sideways

If a workflow doesn't save real time within a fortnight, we drop it. No new platforms for the sake of it.

Sixteen years in classrooms and staffrooms across four countries, eleven of them in senior leadership.

I've founded and led British secondary provision in Seoul and built Hanoi's leading A Level sixth form. I know what a Sunday evening of marking feels like, and I know what it takes to get a whole staff to change a habit.

My career has taken me from inner-city Manchester to Kyiv, Hanoi and Seoul, with 60+ countries visited along the way, several of them by motorcycle. That range matters: I train staff who work across very different cultures, curricula and levels of confidence with technology.

The School AI Coach grew out of the workflows I built for my own teams: report cycles cut from weeks to days, differentiated resources in minutes, and leaders with time to lead. I now help other international schools do the same, in English, with Korean-context support available.
